Hi! I am Shea, a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner.
Michael M. Zavala, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC is a Texas and New Mexico based Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner focused on holistic integrative psychiatry.
I help adults experiencing obesity, anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, and burnout/moral injury rediscover their sense of excitement and engagement with work, loved ones, and life by offering a specialized approach for those motivated to uncover the root cause of their symptoms, with medication as an option, NOT the only option.
If you feel like your mind is running in a hundred different directions, you are missing out on moments, struggling financially, and in your relationships, it might be time to get help. Whether it's trying to manage the chaos of ADHD, dealing with mood swings, or feeling like you’re always anxious or stressed—life can feel overwhelming. I get it. It's hard to balance it all when your emotions and focus aren’t cooperating. That’s where I come in. My goal is to help you find that calm amidst the chaos. We’ll work together to manage emotions, reduce the overwhelm, and rediscover the clarity and joy in your life. With therapy, medicine and coaching, we’ll tackle what’s holding you back so you can feel more in control. I have been exactly where you are at and would love to help you.
Im a board certified NP, University of Texas Alumni with 8 years of mental health experience. I believe in comprehensive care and looking at it individual as a whole. My specialty of interest includes postpartum depression, ADHD and depression/anxiety.
I promote the healthy development of children, adolescents, adults and families.
I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with more than two decades of experience in emergency medicine, nursing, education, and behavioral health. My passion for caring for veterans, first responders, and their families has been shaped by both my professional experience and my life as the wife of a United States Marine Corps veteran and career firefighter.
My journey in healthcare began in 2003 as a youth member of Emergency Medical Services. I went on to serve as both a volunteer and paid EMT and eventually became Sergeant of the Montclair Ambulance Unit, where I developed a Community Response and Education Program focused on outreach, wellness, and resilience.
I earned my BS in Criminal Justice with a minor in Juvenile Corrections and Forensics, followed by my BSN from Caldwell College, MSN in Nursing Education from the University of Phoenix, and PMHNP degree from Purdue University. Throughout my nursing career, I have worked in emergency departments, Level I Shock Trauma Centers, corrections, flight nursing, case management, mobile intensive care, and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Education has remained an important part of my career. I have taught nursing students in psychiatric nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, epidemiology, and critical care and have presented nationally on PTSD prevention and resilience among first responders.
Today, I serve as a PMHNP and Director of Family Wellness and Resilience for Heroes Anchor. I specialize in compassionate, trauma-informed care for veterans, first responders, and their families, while also working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, relationship challenges, emotional dysregulation, and major life transitions.
My goal is to create a space where you feel understood as a whole person—not simply as a diagnosis.
