I'm Valerie Sewell, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) who works with individuals managing stress, burnout, and the ongoing demands of work, family, caregiving, and everyday life. Many of the people I work with are balancing multiple responsibilities and are looking for practical ways to feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
I am also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), which brings an additional behavioral lens to my work as a counselor. While our work together is focused on counseling, my behavioral background helps me recognize patterns, understand what may be contributing to them, and develop practical strategies for meaningful change.
I am fairly straightforward in how I work and believe therapy should be useful in your everyday life. You do not have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. I will meet you where you are, and we will take things one step at a time.
Welcome! I am a health psychologist who is interested in helping people reach their maximum potential in their physical, mental, and spiritual health. I believe that counseling can promote self-efficacy, healing, peace, hope, and a sense of purpose. I believe that individuals are created wonderfully in body, mind, and spirit. In order to reach full potential of health, each domain must be addressed for whole body wellness. I practice with the intent of finding natural solutions to wellness.
“If we want to not just survive but also to thrive in this always challenging world, we have to intentionally develop our capacity to act with courage.” My job is to help you find and develop that courage for the challenges of life.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I work with individuals, couples, and families who want more than just relief from stress or conflict—they want meaningful change. I believe courage isn’t about being fearless; it’s about showing up honestly, even when it’s uncomfortable, and taking small, intentional steps toward the life and relationships you want. Therapy is a place where you don’t have to have it all figured out. Together, we slow things down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and uncover new ways of responding that feel more aligned with who you truly are.
I’m a licensed clinical psychologist whose work is grounded in evidence-based, compassionate care. I completed advanced graduate training in clinical psychology, followed by supervised work in outpatient and higher-acuity settings, where I treated adults and adolescents with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties.
In my practice, I primarily use approaches like CBT, ACT, and trauma-informed therapies, integrating them in a way that’s tailored to each person rather than one-size-fits-all. I pay close attention to cultural and contextual factors, and I use measurement-based care so we can see whether treatment is actually helping you over time.
Clients often describe me as understanding, direct, and collaborative: I’ll bring structure and clinical expertise while also respecting your pace and values. I work with individual adults (and in some cases teens) who are dealing with issues like chronic stress, perfectionism, identity and life transitions, grief, and the impact of past traumatic experiences.
My goal is to provide a space that is both validating and change-focused; somewhere you can be fully honest, feel understood, and also develop practical skills to live in a way that feels more aligned with who you want to be
As a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Austin, Texas, I provide trauma-informed, person-centered care that is both compassionate and practical. While I believe in taking time to process your experiences, I also work collaboratively with you to identify strengths, develop effective coping strategies, and create meaningful change that aligns with your values.
